It’s really not very easy to convey the full sentiment of why we collect historically significant arms and militaria. Maybe one reason is that to hold a piece of militaria, be it a helmet, a unit insignia, bayonet or rifle, is to hold history in your hands. Your mind can’t help but wander all the stories of courageous men and women who gave everything they had in pursuit of something they felt was bigger than themselves. For many of us, these service men and women embody everything that we all aspire to. It is this reverence that transports us when we handle an old battle rifle. Thinking, “could this rifle have actually seen combat in that forsaken hell pit on Guadalcanal”? Did it’s owner bring it back himself, or was he buried there?
One of the wonders of this wonderful hobby is that it’s enthusiasts come from all walks of life. We all share a common passion (or sickness if you choose) that bonds us at these shows. No matter who you run into at one of our shows, one thing is for sure…they won’t be a stranger very long.
